ECHO is the rod company built by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster who learned the game at San Francisco's Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club. Tim still designs ECHO rods and reels from the company's home in Vancouver, Washington, with one aim: gear that casts beautifully and doesn't drain your wallet. AvidMax carries ECHO rods and reels for trout, Euro nymphing, bass, musky and saltwater, plus easy kits for new anglers.
Why fish an ECHO rod?
Designed by a casting champion in Vancouver, Washington
Tim Rajeff grew up casting at the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club in San Francisco and started designing rods in 1980. In the mid-1980s he won the single-hand distance event at the world casting championships. He went on to guide in Alaska, build fishing camps on Russia's Kola Peninsula and run engineering at a rod factory before starting his own company. Today ECHO is part of Rajeff Sports, a small crew of anglers in Vancouver, Washington. ECHO sells its rods and reels only through fly shops, and Tim still has a hand in nearly every design.
Action, power and honest line ratings
ECHO publishes an Action vs. Power chart so you can compare rods before you buy. Action describes how the top half of the rod bends, and power describes the lower half. Faster rods suit an aggressive stroke, while moderate rods reward a smooth one. The Trout X uses a Variable Sweet Spot action that stiffens gradually from tip to butt, and each model carries a Line Stiffness Rating that shows the line weight it was tuned to load. At the top of the range, the Shadow X uses ECHO's most advanced high modulus graphite and weighs about 20% less than the Shadow II.
Which ECHO rod is right for you?
- ECHO Trout X: A Variable Sweet Spot trout rod from a 7'6" 3wt for small creeks to a 9' 6wt for wind, big flies and heavy nymph rigs.
- ECHO Boost Fresh: A fast-action freshwater rod in 4, 5 and 6 weights, built from intermediate modulus graphite for anglers who like a quick, crisp stroke.
- ECHO Shadow X: ECHO's lightest and most advanced Euro nymph rod, offered in 10' to 11' lengths in 2 and 3 weights and developed with competitive nymphing experts.
- ECHO Lift: An affordable 4-piece rod from a 7'6" 3wt for small-stream dries up to a 9' 8wt for steelhead, salmon and inshore salt.
- ECHO Boost Blue Salt: A fast 9' saltwater rod in 6 through 12 weight with titanium stripping guides, made for windy flats, mangroves and big-game fish.
- ECHO Bad Ass Glass Quickshot: A quick, powerful 8' fiberglass rod for throwing big flies at big fish, from inshore saltwater to freshwater predators.
- ECHO ION reel: An alloy disc-drag reel with low start-up resistance, offered in six sizes that cover 2 through 12 weight lines.
