The Echo TRIP Trout is a 9' travel fly rod that breaks down into eight 15" pieces and fits in its own 18" case. Taking a standard 4-piece rod is often not an option when you travel, so Echo built the TRIP series to pack small enough for a business trip, a backpacking hike, or a rod that simply rides along in the car for a spontaneous stop.

Echo designed the TRIP rods to be fished all over the world, so they use a versatile, smooth blend of action and power that covers a wide range of fishing. The TRIP Trout models have a dark green blank printed TRIP Trout, a reversed half wells cork grip, a black anodized aluminum uplocking reel seat, ceramic stripping guides and stainless snake guides, and they come in a black zippered, fabric-covered case. We carry the 9' 5 wt and 9' 6 wt.

The all-round TRIP: a 9' 5 wt trout rod that packs into an 18" case, for trout water on business trips, backpacking trips or as the rod that lives in the car.

Best for: travel and backpacking, trout on dries and nymphs.

Line pairing: A 5 wt weight-forward floating trout line. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF5F) or the RIO Elite Gold (WF5F).

ECHOTRIP690 - 9' 6 wt

The same 8-piece travel design with a 6 wt line, for trips where you expect bigger flies, bigger fish or more wind.

Best for: travel, bigger trout flies, windier days.

Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth MPX (WF6F).

TRIP Trout vs Other Echo Rods

On Echo's action and power chart the TRIP is slower in action than the Echo Carbon XL but has more power than both the Carbon XL and the Echo Lift. Choose the TRIP when packability matters most; choose a 4-piece rod such as the Carbon XL, Lift or Echo Trout X if the rod will mostly stay at home. Echo also makes a 9' 8 wt TRIP Salt with a blue blank and a fighting butt.

Does it come with a case?

Yes. The rod comes in a black zippered, fabric-covered Echo case.

What is the difference between TRIP Trout and TRIP Salt?

TRIP is the series name. The 5 wt and 6 wt are printed TRIP Trout on a green blank with a reversed half wells grip; the 8 wt TRIP Salt has a blue blank and a full wells grip with a fighting butt. We carry the 5 wt and 6 wt.

Which weight should I choose?

The 9' 5 wt for most trout travel. Pick the 9' 6 wt if you expect bigger flies, bigger fish or wind.

What is the warranty?

The TRIP is covered by Echo's lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner, when the rod is bought from an authorized dealer. If the rod breaks in normal fishing use, Echo repairs or replaces it for a service fee that varies by model, and the fee is waived if the cause turns out to be a defect.
