Overview

The G. Loomis IMX-PRO Creek, which G. Loomis calls the IMX-PRO C, is a compact rod for small, less-pressured water: high-country creeks, brushy headwaters and bluelines where a 9' 5 wt is too long and too much rod. Announced in 2021, it is 7'9" long and handcrafted in Woodland, Washington.

G. Loomis gives it a moderate, light-presentation action that loads at short range and tracks true, with a stable tip. Conduit Core in the butt section keeps the strength with less carbon, for better balance and less weight, and Multi-Taper Design adds material at likely break points and removes it elsewhere. It has a custom half wells premium cork grip, chrome single-foot guides, a chrome stripping guide and a hook keeper, and it packs into a short tube and sock that ride on a pack or under a truck seat. We carry the 2, 3 and 4 wt, all 4-piece.

Which IMX-PRO Creek Should You Choose?

The smallest water and the smallest flies: 12837-01 (7'9" 2 wt).

Dries and dry-droppers on bluelines and high-country creeks: IMX-PRO C 379-4 (7'9" 3 wt).

Nymphs and small streamers on small streams: IMX-PRO C 479-4 (7'9" 4 wt).

G. Loomis IMX-PRO Creek Models

12837-01 - 7'9" 2 wt

The lightest Creek, for the smallest water and the smallest flies: dries, nymphs and small streamers on bluelines and brushy headwaters. Reviewers find the Creek easy to cast and good off the tip, and more versatile than glass on small fish.

Best for: tiny creeks, bluelines, small dries.

Line pairing: A 2 wt double taper or light trout line. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT2F) or the SA Mastery Double Taper (DT2F).

IMX-PRO C 379-4 - 7'9" 3 wt

A 3 wt for dries, dry-droppers, nymphs and small streamers on high-country creeks. Reviewers single out the 3 wt for its light weight and accurate casting.

Best for: bluelines, high-country creeks, dry-dropper.

Line pairing: A 3 wt creek or trout taper for short, accurate casts. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Creek Trout (WF3F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT3F).

IMX-PRO C 479-4 - 7'9" 4 wt

The heaviest Creek, with a little more line weight for nymph rigs and small streamers on small streams, in the same compact 7'9" length.

Best for: small streams, nymphs, small streamers.

Line pairing: A 4 wt trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout Expert (WF4F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT4F).

IMX-PRO Creek vs Other G. Loomis Rods

Next to the 9' G. Loomis IMX-PRO V2 490-4 and 590-4, the Creek is shorter (7'9"), has a moderate action instead of fast, and a half wells grip instead of micro full wells. Choose the Creek for small water and the IMX-PRO V2 for rivers and lakes.

For accurate dry-fly presentation to picky trout on technical water, G. Loomis builds the G. Loomis NRX+ LP, 3 to 6 wt in 8'3" to 9' lengths.
