Overview
The Sage Foundation Outfit is a ready-to-fish package built around the Sage Foundation fly rod. Each outfit pairs a fast-action 9' 4-piece Foundation rod with a Sage Spectrum C reel, a RIO Gold weight-forward floating line, backing and a tapered leader, all packed in a rod and reel case.
The rod is the same Foundation built by hand on Bainbridge Island, Washington, on a Graphite IIIe blank in Stealth Black. The 4, 5 and 6 wt outfits use the snub-nose half wells grip, and the 7 and 8 wt outfits add a fighting butt. Sage calls the 5 wt its most versatile trout rod weight and length, and the Spectrum C its most popular trout reel.

Foundation Outfit vs Foundation Rod
The outfit uses the same rod as the Sage Foundation fly rod and adds the reel, line, backing, leader and a rod and reel case in place of the rod-only tube. What comes in the Sage Foundation Outfit?

Is the line on the 7 and 8 wt outfits a saltwater line?
No. Every outfit ships with RIO Gold, a trout taper. If you plan to fish the salt, add a saltwater line for warm water.
Where is the rod made?
The Foundation rod is built by hand on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
What is the warranty on the rod?
Sage covers its rods for the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship. Breakage outside that coverage is repaired for a fee set by the age of the rod.
