Overview

The Sage Arrow is new for 2026 and replaces the Sonic as Sage's mid-priced, multi-application trout rod. It is a fast-action freshwater series for trout, bass, panfish and pike, from dry flies and hoppers to large streamers, handcrafted on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and it sits between the Foundation and the R8 Core in Sage's lineup.

The blank is KonneticHD, a higher-density graphite composite that Sage says builds lighter, stronger rods with faster recovery and tighter loops; Field & Stream notes it is lighter and stronger than the Konnetic material in the Sonic. The Arrow has a Flint blank with olive wraps and Gunsmoke trim, a Fuji ceramic stripping guide and hard chrome snakes. Half wells models get Super Grade cork and an up-locking seat with a walnut insert; FB models get a slim full wells grip, cork and EVA fighting butt and a hidden hook keeper. Every Arrow is 4-piece and ships in a rod bag and aluminum rod tube.

Which Arrow Should You Choose?

Sage Arrow Models

376-4 - 7'6" 3 wt

Built for small streams, blueline creeks and tributaries where accurate presentation counts most. It has a slim snub-nose half wells grip and an up-locking reel seat with a walnut insert.

Best for: small streams, blueline creeks, tributaries.

Line pairing: A 3 wt creek or short-range trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Creek Trout (WF3F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout GP (WF3F).

486-4 - 8'6" 4 wt

Light, quick and responsive, for small to medium flies and wary trout. The 8'6" 4 wt is the small-stream Arrow, for dries, small dry-droppers and light nymphs.

Best for: dry flies, light dry-droppers, small to medium streams.

Line pairing: A 4 wt delicate trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout Expert (WF4F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF4F).

590-4 - 9' 5 wt

Sage calls it the most versatile Arrow for trout, for the full range of trout flies and sizes on lines of different densities. Field & Stream's tester found it closer to medium-fast than its fast rating, with a softer tip, great recovery and a mix of power and finesse, and reviewers call it a Swiss army knife for trout.

Best for: one rod for most trout water.

Line pairing: A 5 wt all-round trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF5F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout GP (WF5F).

5100-4FB - 10' 5 wt

A 10' 5 wt with a fighting butt for subsurface fishing. The length gives you mending control and extra casting distance for long, clean drifts on rivers and lakes. It has a slim full wells grip, cork and EVA fighting butt, and a matte nickel-bronze reel seat with a hidden hook keeper.

Best for: nymphing, long drifts, stillwater.

Line pairing: A 5 wt floating line for nymphing, or a stillwater line for lakes. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF5F) or the SA Stillwater Float (WF5F).

690-4 - 9' 6 wt

For large-river trout and sizeable smallmouth bass, with the power to push larger flies into a stiff wind. Big Sky Anglers likes it for pitching and twitching leggy salmonfly patterns.

Best for: big-river trout, smallmouth bass, salmonfly hatches.

Line pairing: A 6 wt all-purpose trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Trout Expert (WF6F).

690-4FB - 9' 6 wt

The 9' 6 wt with a slim full wells grip and fighting butt, built for large flies such as oversized terrestrials and beaded streamers, with ample power for big fish in gusty conditions.

Best for: big terrestrials, beaded streamers, windy days.

Line pairing: A 6 wt streamer or sink-tip line. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F).

Arrow vs Foundation, R8 Core and Sonic

Against the Sage Foundation, the Arrow moves up from Graphite IIIe to KonneticHD and adds a walnut reel seat insert, a Fuji stripping guide and an aluminum tube in place of the Foundation's nylon one. Field & Stream found the Sage R8 Core better in subtle ways, though not always by enough to matter for every angler. The Arrow replaces the Sonic, and one shop that fished both found the Arrow's 9'6" 6 wt added power and feel over the Sonic version. For dedicated ultralight creek fishing, look at the 3-piece Sage Dart; for euro nymphing, the Sage ESN.

It is handcrafted on Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Does it come with a case?

Yes, a black rod bag and an aluminum rod tube with a Sage medallion.

Which Arrow should I choose?
