Overview
The Redington EDC, short for Everyday Carry, is a fast-action fly rod built for anglers who want a rod that works hard and fishes well without a top-tier price. Introduced in 2025, it uses a Nano Resin graphite blank that Redington says gives sensitivity and responsiveness without giving up strength, a smooth casting stroke and real fish-fighting power. Each size is designed for a specific job but handles more than one.
It is full of practical touches: measurement marks on the blank so you can measure a fish without a separate ruler, a hook keeper machined into the reel seat, alignment dots and a neutral matte finish that cuts glare. The saltwater-ready anodized aluminum reel seat has jam nuts with deep knurling, and the guides are black chrome snakes with ceramic-insert stripping guides. Every EDC is 4-piece and comes in a high-denier nylon rod tube with dividers. We carry six models, from a 10' 4 wt to a 9' 8 wt.
Which EDC Should You Choose?

Long nymph drifts, mending, distance and lighter lake fishing: 5-5041T-5100-4 (10' 5 wt).

Redington EDC Models
5-5041T-4100-4 - 10' 4 wt
A nymphing rod with the backbone to cast heavier indicator rigs and a sensitive tip to feel the take, and a very capable choice for euro nymphing. It has the reverse half-wells cork grip.
Best for: indicator nymphing, euro nymphing.
Line pairing: A euro nymph line for tight-line fishing, or a 4 wt weight-forward floating line for indicator rigs. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout Expert (WF4F) or the SA Mastery Euro Tactical Nymph (0.022 in level).
5-5041T-596-4 - 9'6" 5 wt
A 5 wt with extra length for anglers who want more mending control. It handles a range of styles, from nymph rigs to dry flies, and makes a good rod to fish from a boat. It has the reverse half-wells cork grip.
Best for: boat fishing, nymphing, dry flies, mending.
Line pairing: A 5 wt weight-forward floating trout line. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF5F) or the RIO Elite Gold (WF5F).
5-5041T-5100-4 - 10' 5 wt
The 10' length gives you better line control for nymphing and mending and more power for distance, and it doubles as a lighter lake rod. It has the reverse half-wells cork grip.
Best for: nymphing, mending, lighter stillwater fishing.
Line pairing: A 5 wt weight-forward floating line for rivers, or a stillwater floating or intermediate line for lakes. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF5F) or the RIO Elite Gold (WF5F).
5-5041T-690-4FB - 9' 6 wt
The fighting butt version of the 9' 6 wt (FB in the model name). It casts streamers and large flies well and holds up when the wind blows. It has the full-wells cork grip with a rubberized cork fighting butt.
Best for: streamers, large flies, larger fish, windy days.
Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line, or a long-head taper for streamers. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF6F).
5-5041T-790-4 - 9' 7 wt
A 7 wt for large, heavy flies: trophy trout on streamers, bass poppers, Alaska salmon and light-duty saltwater fishing on the bonefish flats. It has the full-wells cork grip with a rubberized cork fighting butt.
Best for: streamers, bass bugs, salmon, light saltwater.
Line pairing: A 7 wt weight-forward floating line, a bass bug taper or a sink tip for streamers. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Bass Bug (WF7F).
5-5041T-890-4 - 9' 8 wt
Redington calls the 8 wt the most versatile all-water rod in the EDC family: Alaska salmon, warmwater bass, the saltwater flats and stripers. It has the full-wells cork grip with a rubberized cork fighting butt.
Best for: bass, salmon, stripers, saltwater flats.
Line pairing: An 8 wt weight-forward floating line, or a bonefish or striper taper for the salt. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF8F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Striper (WF8F).
EDC vs Redington Vice
Both are fast-action, 4-piece Redington rods. The EDC is the newer design, released in 2025 with a Nano Resin graphite blank, measurement marks on the blank and a hook keeper hidden in the reel seat, in 4 to 8 wt. The Redington Vice dates from 2016 and uses a multi-modulus carbon fiber blank, with sizes from a 7'6" 3 wt creek rod to a 9' 9 wt for the salt. Choose the EDC for the newer blank and its on-the-water extras; look at the Vice for a short light-line rod or a 9 wt.
