Description

Overview

The Redington BIG GAME is a freshwater fly rod built to cast and work big flies: bass poppers, swim flies and articulated streamers for largemouth, smallmouth, northern pike and predatory trout. New for 2026, it is what Redington calls its most powerful rod series yet. The action is fast but deep-loading, so the rod flexes deeper to carry heavy, wind-resistant flies and soak up the shock of turning them over, while the butt section still drives the cast and fights the fish.

Every BIG GAME is a 4-piece rod in a Blued Steel finish, built with Redington's Nano Resin graphite and designed in-house on Bainbridge Island. It has a full-wells cork grip with a cork composite fighting butt, an anodized aluminum reel seat with a hidden hook keeper, and it ships in a nylon rod tube with dividers. We carry the 6 and 7 wt models in two lengths: 8'3" for accurate casts in tight quarters and 9' for distance and wind.

Which BIG GAME Should You Choose?

Pitching poppers and small streamers accurately in tight quarters, smallmouth and predatory trout: 5-5047T-683-4 (8'3" 6 wt).

Longer casts and windy days with 6 wt bass bugs and trout streamers: 5-5047T-690-4 (9' 6 wt).

Larger poppers and swim flies placed with precision at close range: 5-5047T-783-4 (8'3" 7 wt).

Distance, wind and bigger flies for largemouth, smallmouth and pike: 5-5047T-790-4 (9' 7 wt).

Redington BIG GAME Models

5-5047T-683-4 - 8'3" 6 wt

The lightest and shortest BIG GAME we carry. The 8'3" length is made for putting poppers and streamers exactly where you want them in tight quarters, and for animating the fly on the retrieve. A natural fit for smallmouth and for streamer fishing to predatory trout.

Best for: bass poppers, swim flies and streamers at close range, smallmouth, predatory trout.

Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line with a bass-bug or big-fly taper, or a sink-tip line for streamers. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F).

5-5047T-690-4 - 9' 6 wt

The 9' 6 wt trades a little close-range precision for reach. The extra length helps you make long casts and push light poppers and streamers through gusty conditions, whether you are fishing for bass or predatory trout.

Best for: distance casts and wind, smallmouth and largemouth, streamers for trout.

5-5047T-783-4 - 8'3" 7 wt

The short rod with more power. The 7 wt carries larger, heavier flies than the 6 wt, and the 8'3" length keeps casts accurate in tight quarters and makes it easy to work the fly on the retrieve.

Best for: larger poppers and swim flies placed with precision, largemouth and smallmouth.

Line pairing: A 7 wt weight-forward floating line with a bass-bug or big-fly taper, or a sink-tip line for streamers. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Bass Bug (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF7F).

5-5047T-790-4 - 9' 7 wt

The most versatile BIG GAME we carry: a 9' 7 wt for hitting far-off targets and powering through the windiest days with poppers and streamers. Redington's 9' models are aimed at largemouth, smallmouth and northern pike.

Best for: long casts, wind, bigger flies, largemouth, smallmouth, pike.

Line pairing: A 7 wt weight-forward floating line with a bass-bug or big-fly taper, or a sink-tip line for streamers. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Bass Bug (WF7F).

BIG GAME vs Other Redington Rods

Redington's earlier big-fly rod was the Predator. Reviewers describe BIG GAME as filling the freshwater big-fly role after Redington introduced the saltwater Predator Salt in 2025, with lighter swing weights and shorter lengths than the old Predator. Reviewers describe the Predator Salt as the faster rod, built for line speed in the wind, while BIG GAME flexes deeper for control with large, heavy flies. Other Redington fly rods we carry include the Redington Vice, the Redington Wrangler and the Redington Classic Trout.

Redington BIG GAME FAQ

What is the BIG GAME designed for?

Casting and retrieving big flies in fresh water: bass poppers, swim flies and streamers for largemouth, smallmouth, northern pike and predatory trout.

Should I choose 8'3" or 9'?

Choose 8'3" for accuracy in tight quarters and for working the fly on the retrieve. Choose 9' for longer casts and windy conditions.

Should I choose the 6 wt or the 7 wt?

The 6 wt is the lighter rod for smaller bass bugs and streamers, smallmouth and trout. The 7 wt carries larger, heavier flies and handles bigger fish such as largemouth and pike more easily.

What line should I use?

Redington does not publish a line or grain recommendation for the 6 and 7 wt. A weight-forward floating line in the rod's line weight with a bass-bug or big-fly taper is the usual choice, with a sink-tip line for fishing streamers deeper.

Does it come with a case?

Yes. Each BIG GAME ships in a high-denier nylon rod tube with dividers.

What is the warranty?

The BIG GAME is covered by Redington's original-owner warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
