Overview
The Scott F Series is a family of short fiberglass fly rods handcrafted in Montrose, Colorado, made for small creeks, brook trout water and backcountry streams where most casts are inside 20 feet. Scott has built glass rods since the 1970s, and the current F Series uses E-glass with slimmer tapers and a redesigned hollow internal ferrule for a smooth, deep-flexing action.
Glass bends deep into the butt, so an F Series loads with only a few feet of line past the tip and tells you exactly what the line and the fish are doing. That makes tight-quarters casting easier and turns a 10-inch brookie into a real fight. These are specialized close-range tools rather than long-distance rods, and that is the point.
Which F Series Should You Choose?
The lightest presentations and fine tippet: FS6224 (6'2" 2 wt).
One glass rod for small creeks: FS6634 (6'6" 3 wt), Scott's pick if you own only one.
Backpacking and remote water: FS7235 (7'2" 3 wt, 5-piece), which packs into an 18 inch tube.
Bigger flies, nymph rigs and dry-droppers: FS7244 (7'2" 4 wt).

Scott F Series Models
FS6224 - 6'2" 2 wt
The deepest-bending rod in the series, built for whisper-light dry fly presentations and protecting the finest tippet. It bends into the cork on a fish yet stays smooth and stable on the cast.
Best for: tiny dries, spooky fish in clear water, the smallest creeks.
Line pairing: A true-to-weight 2 wt, double taper or delicate weight forward. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT2F) or the Cortland Finesse Trout II (WF2F).
FS6634 - 6'6" 3 wt
Scott's pick if you could own only one glass rod. It balances quick loading up close with enough line speed and feel to handle nearly any fly size you will use on small creeks and backcountry water. Reviewers note a lively action that flexes deep into the butt, at a weight of just over 2 ounces.
Best for: brook trout water, high mountain streams, close-range dries and small nymphs.
Line pairing: A 3 wt double taper or a short, delicate trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT3F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Creek Trout (WF3F).
FS7235 - 7'2" 3 wt 5-piece
The packable F Series. Five pieces give full performance in an 18 inch tube, so it rides easily in a backpack to remote creeks and alpine lakes. The extra length helps you reach out on lakes, and it is still light enough to flick a few feet of line into the next pocket on a tiny creek.
Best for: backpacking, hike-in creeks, small alpine lakes.
Line pairing: A 3 wt double taper or general trout taper. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT3F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Trout GP (WF3F).
FS7244 - 7'2" 4 wt
The most powerful F Series, with backbone for larger flies and larger fish. Scott recommends it for small streamers, nymph rigs and big dry-dropper setups, and it is the glass rod to choose for slightly bigger water.
Best for: dry-dropper rigs, small streamers, nymphing small to medium streams.
Line pairing: A 4 wt trout taper with enough front-end mass to turn over heavier flies. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF4F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Double Taper (DT4F).
F Series vs Graphite
Glass and graphite solve different problems. Scott's graphite rods such as the Scott Session and Scott GT generate more line speed and reach farther, and they are the better choice on open rivers or in wind. The F Series is built for the opposite situation: close casts, tight cover and small fish, where a deep-flexing glass rod loads instantly, protects light tippet and gives far more feel than a fast graphite rod.
Scott F Series FAQ
What is the F Series made of?
E-glass fiberglass with a hollow internal ferrule and a natural finish, handcrafted by Scott in Montrose, Colorado.
Which F Series is best for small creeks?
The FS6634 (6'6" 3 wt) is the all-round small-creek rod. Choose the FS6224 (2 wt) for the lightest presentations or the FS7235 (5-piece) for backpacking.
Is the F Series good for beginners?
Yes for small-stream fishing. Glass loads with very little line out, which makes short casts easier to learn and feel.
What fly line should I use on a Scott F Series?
A true-to-weight trout line. Double tapers suit glass well for delicate presentations and roll casts. Each model section lists two lines we recommend and stock in the right weight.
What warranty comes with the Scott F Series?
Scott covers its rods with a lifetime warranty for the original owner, for rods bought new from an authorized Scott dealer and registered with Scott within 30 days of purchase. Scott charges a service fee for warranty repairs, and the warranty does not cover loss, theft, shipping damage or neglect.
