Description
Overview
The Echo Streamer X is a dedicated streamer rod built from a blueprint by streamer innovator Kelly Galloup. Echo set out to make a rod that puts a fly bigger than a coffee cup into that cup at 50 feet, so the whole design is about accuracy with big, heavy flies. A fast tip loads quickly with few false casts, and a powerful bottom section is tapered to deliver heavy payloads.
Galloup's custom cork handle shape sits in front of a silver skeletonized aluminum up-locking reel seat, on a grey blank with oversized nickel-titanium snake guides. Each rod ships in a fabric-covered rod tube with a sock. We carry all three models, every one a 9' 4-piece rod: 6, 7 and 8 wt.
Which Streamer X Should You Choose?
Small to mid-sized streamers on trout rivers: ECHOSTR690 (9' 6 wt).
One rod for larger streamers that still feels fun with smaller flies: ECHOSTR790 (9' 7 wt).
The biggest, heaviest flies: bunny strips, waterlogged patterns and coneheads: ECHOSTR890 (9' 8 wt).

Echo Streamer X Models
ECHOSTR690 - 9' 6 wt
Echo calls the 6 wt its go-to size for small to mid-sized streamers. It is the lightest Streamer X and the one to pick for most trout streamer days.
Best for: small to mid-sized streamers, trout rivers.
Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line with a short, heavy head to carry streamers, or a sink tip to get them down. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F).
ECHOSTR790 - 9' 7 wt
The in-between size: the 7 wt handles larger flies well and is still fun and effective with smaller patterns.
Best for: larger streamers with the range to fish smaller ones too.
Line pairing: A 7 wt weight-forward floating streamer or bass bug taper, or a sink tip for deeper runs. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Bass Bug (WF7F).
ECHOSTR890 - 9' 8 wt
The heaviest Streamer X, for the big beast flies: bunny strips, waterlogged patterns and conehead-weighted streamers that a lighter rod struggles to cast.
Best for: big, heavy, weighted streamers.
Line pairing: An 8 wt weight-forward floating line with a heavy front taper to turn over big flies, or a sink tip. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF8F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Bass Bug (WF8F).
Streamer X vs EPR and ION XL
The Streamer X is Echo's freshwater streamer specialist in 6 to 8 wt. If you need more power for bigger flies, wind or saltwater, the Echo EPR is the rod Echo calls its fastest and most powerful, designed with bass and musky angler Pat Ehlers and made in 6 to 12 wt. For one rod that moves between trout streamers, bass and inshore saltwater, the Echo ION XL has a more forgiving medium-fast action. For musky, see the Echo Musky.
Echo Streamer X FAQ
Who designed the Streamer X?
Echo developed it from a blueprint by streamer innovator Kelly Galloup, including his custom handle shape.
What action is the Streamer X?
Fast. Echo pairs a fast-loading top section with a powerful bottom section, tapered to deliver heavy flies accurately.
Which weight should I choose?
The 6 wt for small to mid-sized streamers, the 7 wt if you want one rod for larger flies that still handles smaller ones, and the 8 wt for the biggest, heaviest flies.
Does it come with a case?
Yes. Each Streamer X comes in a fabric-covered rod tube with a sock.
What is the warranty?
The rod is covered by Echo's lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner, when bought from an authorized dealer. If it breaks in normal fishing use, Echo repairs or replaces it for a service fee that varies by model.
How is it different from the EPR?
The Streamer X is a 6 to 8 wt freshwater streamer rod tuned for accuracy with big flies. The EPR runs from 6 to 12 wt and is Echo's fastest, most powerful rod, for big flies, big fish and big wind in fresh and saltwater.
