Overview
The Squirmy Wormie Jigged Tungsten Bead combines Umpqua's wiggling Squirmy Wormie with a tungsten bead and a jig hook. It drops quickly into the strike zone and keeps the soft, stretchy body moving the whole way.
Worms live in nearly every trout stream, and both aquatic worms and earthworms washed in from the banks end up in the drift, especially as water rises. The jig hook rides point up, so you can tap the bottom with fewer snags, and the tungsten bead gets it there in faster water. Trout can be moody about worm colors: some days they hit red hard, and other days they ignore it and eat tan.
Euro Specs
- Hook: Jig hook.
- Role: Anchor (point) fly or attractor in a two-fly rig.
How to Fish It
- Tight-line nymphing: fish it on the point of a Euro rig and run a smaller natural nymph on the dropper above it.
- Under an indicator: use it as the lead fly and set the depth so it ticks the bottom.
- High or off-color water: work soft edges and inside bends where trout move out of the heavy current.
- Riffles: the jig hook lets you bounce it through rocky riffles with fewer snags.
Choosing Color and Size
This listing is Tan in size 12. Tan is a natural earthworm shade and a smart switch on days when trout refuse red. Carry it alongside a red or pink worm so you can let the fish choose.
