Hatch builds its reels in Southern California, close to its home base in Vista. Each frame starts as a solid block of aluminum instead of being cast in a mold. That gives you a stiffer reel that holds its shape when a big fish pulls hard. The reel seat is machined as part of the frame, not bolted on, so it cannot work loose from corrosion over time. Hatch calls this costly to make, and few brands do it. A Type II anodized finish then protects the reel in both fresh and salt water.

A drag you can trust

The drag is where a reel earns its keep, and Hatch put a lot of work here. The Iconic uses a stacked, multi-disc drag that brakes on both sides of each disc. More braking surface means a smoother start, less sticking and better heat control on long runs. On the Iconic, the drag is built right into the body for a solid, stable feel, and a carbon-filled drag material sheds heat quickly. Hatch also cut out water entry points, so the drag stays clean. It needs no grease and no routine upkeep.
