Overview

The Menage a Dungeon is the largest fly in Kelly Galloup's Dungeon series, tied by Montana Fly Company. It takes the familiar Sex Dungeon profile and stretches it into a triple-articulated streamer, a big-fish fly by design.

Large predatory trout eat big meals, and this fly gives them one. The extra joint lets the body swing, kick and flare on every strip, and the size and water push draw attention in big rivers. It is equally at home chasing bass and pike. Expect fewer, larger fish when you tie one on.

How to Fish It

• Strip and pause: use hard, erratic strips with pauses so the articulated body darts and then hangs.
• Sink-tip lines: a sink-tip or sinking line helps get it down in deeper runs and pools.
• Bank pounding: from a drift boat, cast tight to banks, logjams and undercuts and strip it back quickly.
• Heavy gear: a 7- or 8-weight rod and a short, stout leader turn over this large fly and handle the fish it attracts.

Choosing Color and Size

Natural and Olive/Yellow suggest sculpins and brown trout forage for clear to moderate water. White/Grey is the baitfish color for bright days and clear water. Purple/Black gives the strongest silhouette at dawn, dusk and in stained water.

All colors are size 1/0, built for large trout, bass and pike.
